The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) is pleased to offer students a unique opportunity to spend 12 months earning a salary and acquiring the knowledge that could kick-start a career in either government or the private sector.

The ABCB is a joint initiative of all three levels of Government in Australia and provides a vital link between the building industry and Government regulatory policy, through producing and maintaining the National Construction Code of Australia (NCC). Our mission is to oversee issues relating to health, safety, amenity and sustainability in building.

The Cadetship is open to both undergraduates and graduates in the fields of

  • Architecture and Design
  • Building Certification / Building Surveying
  • Building / Built Environment
  • Construction Management
  • Construction Engineering
  • Plumbing / Hydraulic Design
  • or associated field.

Applications for this highly competitive 12 month program are now open. Technical projects that Cadets may work on include:

* Developing and maintaining the NCC
* Learning how codes, standards and public policy fit together
* Undertaking research to identify the benefits and costs of national approaches to Government policy.

Students that are familiar with the Building Code of Australia (BCA), or Plumbing Code of Australia (PCA) or who use these documents as part of their studies, are encouraged to apply.

There is likely to be two Cadet positions on offer, commencing in February 2016. Cadets can expect to earn a salary of approx. $54,000 + superannuation and will receive reasonable relocation assistance if moving from interstate to Canberra.

Applications close 30 September 2015.
