The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) offers two scholarships each year to encourage engineering students looking to enter the oil and gas industry. One scholarship is specifically available for Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander applicants, and APPEA encourages applications from students who are planning on starting or are already undertaking an engineering degree in Australia.
The scholarships also include the opportunity to undertake paid work experience with an APPEA member oil and gas company during university vacation breaks, providing valuable industry experience.
Jill Stajduhar, Associate Director at UWA’s Energy and Minerals Institute (EMI), notes: “It is fantastic to see APPEA’s commitment and vision to invest directly in the future of our promising students. Industry-funded scholarships play an important part in identifying and promoting talent to develop Australia's next generation of business leaders, who have the skills and motivation to deliver real benefits both to industry and the wider community.”
