This scholarship has been established by sponsors, colleagues and friends of Brian Coghlan to commemorate his services to the University of Adelaide, his scholarly achievements and his contribution to the cause of German Language and Culture and of the Humanities generally in the South Australian community.

  • One scholarship is available to assist students of German to take the course German in Germany or to participate in a recognised German-Australian semester exchange program.
  • The scholarship is valued at $2,000 for one year and is available to students who have completed at least 6 units of German and who are completing a Major in German or undertaking German to gain a Diploma in Languages in German.
  • The scholarship will be awarded on academic merit and the responses provided by applicants.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to submit a written report to the committee on activities undertaken with scholarship support and to participate in public events to promote German.
  • No awards shall be made, if in the opinion of the University of Adelaide, no candidate is of sufficient merit.
  • The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered; acceptance of the Scholarship offer cannot be deferred. If a student declines the Scholarship offer, the Scholarship will be offered to the next eligible student.
  • In addition to this application form, applicants must provide a current Curriculum Vitae and a letter of support from a member of the German Studies’ staff.
  • This scholarship is available to students who have completed at least 6 units of German and who are completing a Major in German or undertaking German to gain a Diploma in Languages in German at the University of Adelaide.
