City of Burnside intern beams at professional outcomes.
“Professional” is the word which courses through the language and sense of accomplishment by former Navitas Professional Year Program intern, Mr Qi (Sven) Liu.
Sven participated in a 44 week Navitas Professional Year Program (PY) in Adelaide, a self-help, soft skills course designed to prepare graduates for the transition from universities’ theory to the ‘real world’ workplace.
After completing a Master of Accounting and Finance from the University of Adelaide, Sven applied to the course to add-on to his skills sets.
He lauded the training he’d received at Navitas Professional and was beaming about the outcome.
“My course trainer was really professional,” Sven said, “sharing real-world experiences with us, especially from an Australian workplace cultural perspective.
“And the internship focused on finding the right candidate for the host company,” Sven added.
City of Burnside’s Janice van der Pennen, Coordinator Rates and Finance said Sven was shared across theProcurement, Audit and the Finance areas where he was exposed to a various range of tasks and training.
“We have found that all of our interns embrace the training and like to absorb as much information as possible and require only the normal training time/sessions like any new employee would,” said Ms. van der Pennen.
Sven received an added bonus to his CV too, a short-term contract.
“Burnside has offered Sven a three month contract working in our Finance area as Finance and Accounts Payable Officer, covering these positions while staff were on extended leave,” said Ms. van der Pennen.
Sven added that the practical exposure was a great platform to start his career.
“University teaches us heaps of theory which we need, and then the PY course and throughout the internship Navitas has supported me at every turn, helping build my preparedness and usefulness for future employers,” he said.
“I’d like to say special thanks to my colleagues at the City of Burnside too,” Sven concluded.
